Details
Recorded sounds for phonographic experiments.
This is one of five recordings made in 1916 for an experiment that explored changes in sound quality with different recording and replaying speed. The factor of speed was essential for ethnographic recording - the main purpose of the Berliner Phonogramm-Archiv. Slower speed enables longer recording times, but perhaps also influenced the quality of the recorded sound. The five recordings that belong to this series were recorded with speeds that Stumpf notated in terms of musical intervals (e.g. a transposition by a fifth indicates a relation of 2 to 3).
recording starts at min 2:39
